Pricing, features, and how Covetrus Pulse connects to your clinic's website for online booking, texting, reminders and payments.
Practice software compared / Covetrus Pulse
Covetrus Pulse is cloud-based practice management software from Covetrus, launched in 2022. Your team uses it in a web browser on any device, and it brings medical records, a treatment board, a task dashboard, scheduling, reports and Covetrus AI SOAP notes into one system, with prescriptions and an online pharmacy through Covetrus vRxPro. Covetrus says it suits anything from a one-vet clinic to a multi-location group.
Pulse sends email and text reminders and digital client forms on its own. Online booking and two-way texting come through Covetrus Comms, a separate Covetrus product that Covetrus’s help center says is included with a Pulse subscription. The GreatPetCare pet parent portal and app is included at no extra cost. Card payments, text-to-pay and booking deposits run through Covetrus Payments. Vetstoria puts a booking widget or link on your website that syncs with the Pulse calendar, and Weave, PetDesk, VitusVet and Vet2Pet also connect.
What to ask Covetrus
- Covetrus doesn’t publish a price. Pulse is a monthly subscription, so ask what it costs for your practice and whether there’s a setup fee.
- Covetrus’s help center says Comms and GreatPetCare come with Pulse. Make sure your quote says so, and ask what postcard reminders cost per piece.
- Ask what card processing through Covetrus Payments costs. No rate is published, though Covetrus offers a free rate comparison.
- Covetrus converts your data in a trial pass and again on go-live day, and warns that not all data may transfer, especially from another cloud system. Ask what will move over, how long it takes and whether conversion costs extra.

Is there a cloud version?
Pulse is cloud-only: staff sign in through a supported web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge) on computers, tablets or phones, and Covetrus handles updates and backups. Covetrus asks for at least a 30 Mbps internet connection, 50 Mbps for more than four devices. DYMO label printing needs DYMO's software installed on the computer.source
Labs and diagnostics
The Pulse Help Center has setup guides for Antech reference labs, Heska, IDEXX in-house analyzers (VetLab Station) and IDEXX VetConnect PLUS, National Bio Vet Lab, Zoetis VETSCAN FUSE and Zoetis Reference Labs. Covetrus's partner directory also lists Midwest Veterinary Lab, Vetek Labs, Greywind and DiaSys as Pulse-compatible. For imaging it lists VetRocket RocketPACS (cloud PACS), Fovea and scil.source
Moving your data
Covetrus converts the old system's data in a trial conversion and a final conversion. A Pulse Training Specialist sets the timeline; Covetrus's technical team extracts the data with the clinic or its current vendor (sometimes by installing the Covetrus Connect utility on the clinic's server), maps it to Pulse and imports it for the clinic to audit. On go-live day Covetrus extracts the data again and aims to release it that morning. Covetrus warns that not all data may transfer and that exports from other cloud systems can be limited or slow. No conversion price is published.source
Support and training
Pulse support is by live chat inside Pulse, phone, request form and email during weekday hours, with emergency-only help after hours through the Barkbot chat. During onboarding a Pulse Training Specialist and Covetrus's Onboarding and Delivery Management teams run training sessions, and Covetrus's Customer Education Team holds live Pulse webinars. No onsite training offer is described.source
Covetrus Pulse online booking and website integration
What pet owners can do from your website or phone, and whether Covetrus Pulse does it itself or through a partner.
- Online booking
- Partner source
Pulse has no booking page of its own: in the GreatPetCare portal, booking needs Covetrus Comms, which the Pulse Help Center says is included with a Pulse subscription. With Comms, clients see open time slots and book online. Vetstoria embeds a booking widget or link on the clinic website with two-way real-time sync to the Pulse calendar. VetPawer's AI assistant books appointments into the Pulse schedule from the clinic's phone, website and social media, and Next In Line (online scheduling and a virtual waitlist) is also listed as Pulse-compatible. sourcesourcesourcesourcesourcesource
- Two-way texting
- Partner source
Pulse doesn't text two ways on its own. With Covetrus Comms, staff send and receive texts, including images, from inside Pulse; the Pulse Help Center calls Comms the only client communication solution Covetrus develops and supports for Pulse. It also documents a MessageMedia integration for two-way SMS. Weave and PetDesk are listed as Pulse-compatible. sourcesource
- Reminders
- Built in source
Built in: Pulse sends email and text reminders automatically through Nightly Tasks, and staff can send email, text or postcard reminders from the Patient Reminders and Appointment reports using editable templates. Covetrus Comms adds automated text, email and postcard reminder sequences; postcards are billed per piece. Boomerang Vet, Weave, Vet2Pet, VitusVet and PetDesk are also listed as Pulse-compatible reminder tools. sourcesourcesourcesource
- Online payments
- Partner source
Card processing comes through Covetrus Payments, a separate Covetrus product that runs on Worldpay or Stripe: charges post to the client's file, cards can be stored, and clinics accept point-of-care, online and mobile payments, including Apple Pay. Pulse supports text-to-pay, appointment deposits for online booking and surcharging; some in-Pulse features need the Stripe integration. CareCredit financing is integrated. Vetstoria can take payments when clients book. sourcesourcesourcesource
- Online forms
- Built in source
Built in: Pulse's Fillable Forms let the clinic build digital forms in a drag-and-drop editor and send them by email or text from an appointment or the patient record. Clients fill them out on a mobile-friendly page with no login, and each submission is saved as a PDF in the patient's record. source
- Pet owner app or portal
- Partner source
Pulse's pet parent portal is Covetrus GreatPetCare, a separate Covetrus product that the Pulse Help Center says is included at no additional cost for Pulse practices. On the web or the GreatPetCare app, clients see invoices, visits, reminders and vaccine histories from Pulse; booking and in-clinic refill requests need Covetrus Comms, and online pharmacy orders need vRxPro. PetDesk, Vet2Pet and VitusVet apps are also listed as Pulse-compatible. sourcesourcesource
Covetrus says Pulse has over 250 third-party integrations. Its Connect Partner Directory lists these client communication, booking and engagement partners as Pulse-compatible, and the Pulse Help Center documents a MessageMedia texting integration. source
