Practice software compared / DaySmart Vet

DaySmart Vet is cloud-based practice management software from DaySmart Software. It began as Vetter, founded by a veterinarian and his software engineer brother, and joined DaySmart in 2021. It runs on any device with an internet connection and covers scheduling, SOAP medical records, a treatment board, inventory, reporting, wellness plans and payments for small animal, mobile, equine, mixed animal, specialty, emergency and multi-location practices.

Some of what pet owners use is built in and some is a paid add-on. Email reminders, online forms and card payments through DaySmart Payments are built in. Online booking runs through PetCare, DaySmart’s client app, which your clinic can also embed on its website: clients request a time and your team approves it. PetCare is a paid add-on, and two-way texting is a separate $99 a month add-on. Vetstoria also connects for booking from your website, and Weave, AllyDVM and PetDesk are among more than 40 integrations.

What to ask DaySmart

  • The pricing page says plans start at $123 a month but not what that price is per. DaySmart’s help center says subscriptions depend on your number of users, so ask for the monthly total for your team.
  • PetCare carries both online booking and the client app, and DaySmart doesn’t publish its price. Ask what it costs before you count on booking from your website.
  • Texting is extra: $99 a month for unlimited two-way texts, or a per-message fee for one-way reminders. Ask which one a practice your size usually needs.
  • Data migration is listed as free, but no timeline is published. Ask how long the switch takes and what moves over from your current system.

Labs and diagnostics

Lab orders go out from DaySmart Vet and results come back into the patient record for IDEXX (reference labs and in-house VetLab Station), Antech, Zoetis reference labs and Zoetis Fuse in-house diagnostics. Heska, Bionote, MicroVet, Midwest Veterinary Laboratory, National Bio Vet and Vetek are also listed. Imaging connects through IDEXX WebPACS (needs its own IDEXX subscription), Sound SmartPACS, Asteris and Vetology.source

Moving your data

DaySmart's onboarding team of software and veterinary industry experts migrates the practice's data from its previous software, and the pricing page lists data migration as free. DaySmart's partner landing pages name AVImark and ezyVet as systems it migrates from. No timeline is published. If you leave, DaySmart says it helps export your data at no cost; the help center says two SQL or PDF exports are free and more carry a fee.source

Support and training

Software support runs 24/7 by in-app chat, email and phone; chat starts with an AI assistant and hands off to a person on request. Payment support keeps weekday hours. Onboarding support and training resources are included, with an assigned onboarding specialist during migration and self-paced e-learning courses in the app.source

Online booking
Partner source

Online booking runs through PetCare, DaySmart's paid client app add-on. Clients request times 24/7 in the app or in a widget the clinic embeds on its website, and staff accept, reschedule or reject each request. Deposits at booking need DaySmart's integrated payments. Vetstoria also connects so clients can book from the clinic's website, and Chckvet connects for online booking. sourcesourcesourcesourcesource

Two-way texting
Partner source

Two-way texting is DaySmart's own SMS Messaging Add-On at $99 a month for unlimited texts. Staff send and receive texts from the Inbox in the Schedule module, and the clinic must complete business registration before SMS turns on. Weave, Chckvet and Dodo also connect for client messaging. sourcesourcesourcesource

Reminders
Built in source

Built in: automatic appointment confirmations and reminders, and medical reminders for vaccines, exams, medications and lab work, with due dates calculated from inventory items. Email reminders are included; text reminders need an SMS add-on and client opt-in. AllyDVM can take over sending reminders, and AutoRemind, PetDesk and VitusVet are on the integrations page. sourcesourcesource

Online payments
Built in source

DaySmart Payments is DaySmart's own integrated card processing, run through Stripe: terminal, keyed-in and stored-card payments, deposits on online booking requests, Pay Now links by text or email, payments in the PetCare app, optional surcharging and free next-day transfers. Processing rates are not published. Sunbit adds buy now, pay later. sourcesource
